After the Animation Foundation: what next?
The Animation Foundation is designed to prepare students for the written and oral entrance exams of the best animation schools.
An Animation Foundation course such as the one offered at Atelier de Sèvres trains students in the fundamentals of drawing and creativity, which are essential in order to pass the competitive exams.
It also gives students experience in exam conditions and supports them in the development of their portfolio, which they will present to the examination panel.
Which schools does the Animation Foundation prepare students for? Catherine Totems, head of the animation foundation and animation degree course at Atelier de Sèvres, gives us the answers.
What are the options after an Animation Foundation?
The Animation Foundation is designed to give students access to the schools they wish to attend and to ensure they have in-depth knowledge of their chosen discipline.
"The goal is to go on to study at an animation school. These might be more technical (2-D/3-D), specialising in video games and VFX, or more artistic schools, or even film schools depending on each student’s profile," says Catherine Totems.
There is vast array of professions in the Animation industry, each more fascinating than the last. During your Animation Foundation year, you will have the opportunity to practice different artistic methods intensively, helping you to choose the direction you wish to go in and, therefore, the school of your choice.
The Animation Foundation at Atelier de Sèvres
During the foundation year preparing you for entrance to the most prestigious schools, Atelier de Sèvres offers its students a wide range of classes designed to strengthen their knowledge and artistic techniques, as well developing their creativity and open-mindedness.
The classes for the Animation Foundation centre on two main branches: drawing and animation. From observational and life drawing to computer graphics and history of cinema and animation, Atelier de Sèvres guarantees you a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the world of Animation.
This is complemented by numerous conferences and workshops, exclusive moments during which the Animation Foundation students at Atelier de Sèvres will have the opportunity to meet and interact with Animation professionals (including the teachers at the schools they will apply to), and to discover new universes.
Mock exams (written and oral) in exam conditions are also organised during the Animation Foundation to prepare students for the competitive exams for the top Animation schools, such as Gobelins, EMCA Angoulême, Rubika (Valenciennes), Georges Méliès, the animation degree course at Atelier de Sèvres and many others.
Students will also create their portfolio with the support of their teachers, in order to be able to present their work to the schools to which they will apply. This portfolio demonstrates the students’ centres of interest and the technical skills they have acquired during the Animation Foundation at Atelier de Sèvres. This is personal work created over time and supported by the monitoring of a project manager.
If you would like to be accepted at the most prestigious animation schools, Atelier de Sèvres invites you to make an appointment with its teaching team to learn more about the Animation Foundation and the admissions process.
